Arrived very early at approx. 11:45am, was met with a warm accommodating friendly smile. Even better was that I was able to get into my room immediately, off to a great start.(Even though Melbourne's weather was atrocious). The reverse cycle air conditioner which was extremely dirty and I doubt weather the filters have been cleaned in a eon, the extreme noise that it made, made it almost impossible to turn on and leave on especially as it was approx. 4 degree's outside. NOT HAPPY. And when it came to calling Taxi in the morning My room phone was not working aha I remembered there was a Taxi phone downstairs which to my delight NOT was also not working all this before 7:30 am in the morning well now can things get worse of course they can. Reception not open until 8:30am My interstate train leaves at 8:30am what to do?? First thing is to stay cool I asked another house guest if she could call me a taxi and in answer to my request she did so Pheww!!! I made it. Please remember not everybody chooses to carry a mobile phone.
We stayed at the apartments for a number of nights and found the location close to tram routes and within a reasonable walking distance of the CBD (15-20 mins), the Exhibition building and the restaurants in Collingword, a real bonus. The apartment provides clean, light and bright facilities without being state of the art or top of the range, but certainly value for money. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We will be staying there again.
Had a day at MCG, the staff were awesome, only problem was lack of restaurants close by, so we walked to Bridge Rd., for dinner which was only about a 15 min. Walk. Would return.
Very tranquil surrounds. Well equipped kitchen and comfortable room.
Quite happy with my night at Birches. Arrived quite late & was directed via phone about check in procedure. Room was clean & comfortable. Location fantastic. Definately recommend as a value for money inner city apartment stay.
Good for our stay, they were doing renovations around the apartments- there was lots of building materials around, not good for parking, when full.Need more signage about entrance to parking and exiting the premises. Otherwise it was nice.
Birches was exactly what I required in a room for this stay
The bedroom needed another blind or curtains as it was VERY bright at night from the outside street lights. The room I was in had been given a slight modernisation in some areas but there were areas that needed attention. It was great to have a place to stay where the noise from people in other units was not an issue. There was some sort of mix up with my booking and when I arrived I was locked out with no idea as to what room I was in and no key. Luckily I was able to read the emergency number on the office door from the entry. Was then given an access code to get through door an d to the safe to get my room key.
The Birches was a great place to stay The staff were very nice and friendly and the apartment was great. I would recommend the birches to all my friends.
We stayed here for one night as it is close to St Vincents Hospital. Pleasantly surprised at the space and comfort as the price was very reasonable. Although a bit old in places it was very clean and had a decent kitcen plus everything worked well. Shower over the bath not an issue for us but might be for someone older. Lovely hot water, toiletries supplied, and plenty of towels. Offstreet parking available for $10. The rooms have been partly refurbished and the beds are clean and comfy. IGA, trams, a multitude of restaurants and shops plus hospitals etc a few minutes walk away. The windows were double glazed in our room so no issue with noise plus at night it was quiet anyway.
Very helpful staff - roomy, pleasant layout, clean.
This was our second time at Birches. It is a very comfortable quiet place to stay. The apartments are well appointed and clean. There is secure parking at the back of the building. There is no lift to the floors above which might make it difficult for anyone not capable of walking up stairs. Would need to ask for ground floor accommodation. Staff friendly and helpful. Outdoor BBQ for guests to use. Close to a supermarket, cafes and Fitzroy Gardens. Also close to tram and within walking distance to City.
price & location awesome!..but i think it could do with a refurb.. room layouts are good..could do with a repaint...not all digital tv channels worked..os parking..friendly staff.
We were a family of 6 including 2 Adults and 4 children. We had the townhouse rented for 1 night. After the initial shock of being told we were "over the road" our experience was fantastic. Very clean with all quality fittings and amenities. We were able to walk to Lygon Street so great location. Will certainly return.
Was really impressed with the venue it was roomy, very neat and clean and had everything you needed. Secured parking, close to many restaurants, pubs, shops, parks, and so close to the city centre. Would definitely stay again and recommend it too.
We stayed for three nights from 24/7 to 27/7. We enjoyed our stay we had room 10 which was a bit noisy from the street traffic but otherwise everything else was good. The tram station is not far only a short walk and it only takes 15 minutes on the tram to get to the city. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Very comfortable sleeping couches. We folded one couch up every day as the room is otherwise to small for meal times. All over nice stay would come again.
This was a good 3 star apartment in a very convenient location. It was a 10 minute tram ride to the CBD. The tram stop is very close. There was a great range of Asian restaurants within a 5minute walk. It was a 2 minute walk to an IGA and bottle shop. We went to the MCG for a football game which was an easy 15minute walk. Bridge Road, where there a load of Fashion outlets and shoe shops was a 10 minute walk. The apartment was supposed to serviced daily but this was a bit hit and miss and not very thorough. It was a good price for the location. It was in a quiet street close to the hospitals.
Great proximity to Melbourne theatres, china town, gardens,MCG etc
Reasonable location due to closeness of trams. 10-15 minute walk to local eateries, which on Fri night were mostly all packed with patrons. An older building, but kept to a reasonable standard. Apartment was clean & it was nice to have the kitchen/dining/lounge area separate from the bedroom area. However no door between bedroom and lounge, so tv noise and lights could easily bother someone trying to sleep. While we could hear people chatting along the corridor & in neighbouring rooms - it was surprisingly quiet at night, and our sleep was only broken by one or two late night party goers walking home along the street.
There is easy access to CBD via tram, actually even within walking distance if you're a good walker. Great little pub (Prince Patrick) nearby and Vietnamese and Thai area just up the road.
